Text: 1 Timothy 6:12,19

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”

Commentary:
In ancient Greek culture there were two main competing views of life;
1) SPARTAN [ROMAN] VIEW -- Few frills and adornments. The development of the physical body for the art of war was the foremost in life.
2) ATHENIAN [GREEK] VIEW -- Fueled by Greek philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates, the Greeks held that the mind and the development of reason (intellect and wisdom) was the superior kind of life. Paul encountered this philosophy on Mars hill Acts 17.
