Bible Notes...

Leave those Landmarks Alone!

Mike Maney

Text: Proverbs 22:28

"Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set."

The 'landmarks' spoken of here were having to do with the land given to the tribes and their families (Proverbs 23:10; Deuteronomy 19:14).

The removing of a landmark was an act associated with evil (Job 24:2). In fact, there was a curse placed upon anyone who did remove a neighbor's landmark (Deuteronomy 27:17). The prophet Hosea describes God's great wrath toward those who violated this command (Hosea 5:10).

Spiritually speaking, the 'landmarks' also refer to the boundaries and limitations of the Word of God and of the teachings of Christ and the apostles. We are not to remove the spiritual landmarks (principles) found in the holy Scriptures.

The societies living in the 'last days' will see a major removal of those spiritual 'landmarks' (2 Timothy 4:4; Titus 1:14) thus incurring the wrath of God upon themselves (Romans 1:18; Romans 2:8).
